Hope and Simplicity: My Journey to Better Clear Skin

There was a time when I hated looking in the mirror. Post-pregnancy, my skin was not my friend. I didn’t have a real skincare routine, and I honestly just hoped for some miracle that never seemed to come. I’d catch glimpses of my reflection, and all I could focus on were the blemishes, the uneven tone, and that tired, dull look. My skin didn’t reflect how I wanted to feel—fresh, vibrant, and confident. I wanted clear skin!

But then it clicked—I wasn’t going to wake up one morning with perfect skin if I didn’t put in the work. So, I decided to make some changes, and over time, I turned things around.

Staying Consistent (Even When You Don’t See Immediate Results)

I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. I hadn’t stuck to a proper skincare routine before, but this time I knew I had to commit. No more skipping steps or forgetting to moisturize because I was tired. I stuck to a morning and evening routine, no matter what. It wasn’t always easy, but I kept reminding myself that change takes time, and I wasn’t going to see results overnight.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Another game changer for me? Water. I know, I know, everyone says it, but it’s true. Once I really started upping my water intake, I noticed a difference not just in my skin but in my overall energy. Hydration became a non-negotiable part of my routine. If I wanted my skin to heal from the inside out, I needed to fuel it properly.

Keeping My Hands Off My Face

One habit I had to break was constantly touching my face—especially with dirty hands. It’s a small change, but it made such a huge impact. Instead of using my hands, I started using a spin brush to wash my face, which gave me a much deeper clean and helped prevent new breakouts.

Positive Mindset and Patience

Let’s be real—waiting for your skin to clear up can be frustrating. I had to remind myself constantly that healing takes time, and I needed to stop obsessing over every little imperfection. I made a conscious decision to stop checking my face in the mirror so much because it was only making me feel worse. And you know what? One day, when I finally did take a good look, my skin had cleared up! My complexion was brighter, smoother, and finally, I felt like myself again.

And to really see the progress, take a look at my before and after photos. The difference is night and day, and it’s a reminder that with patience and care, you can get there too!

So if you’re struggling with your skin, just know that it’s okay to take it day by day. It took me time, patience, and lots of consistency, but the results came. Your glow-up is on its way, mama—you’ve just gotta trust the process.

My Skincare Routine Essentials:

  • Dermalogica Skin Resurfacing Cleanser
  • Usage: I begin my routine with the Dermalogica Skin Resurfacing Cleanser. I apply a small amount to damp skin, massaging it gently in circular motions. This cleanser contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) to help exfoliate and refine my skin’s texture while also providing deep cleansing. I rinse it off thoroughly, leaving my skin feeling refreshed and prepped for the next steps.
  • Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
  • Usage: Next, I use the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. I mix a small amount of the powder with water to create a paste and gently massage it onto my skin in circular motions. This product provides a mild exfoliation, which helps to brighten my complexion and smooth out any rough patches. After a minute or so, I rinse it off, revealing softer skin.
  • The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
  • Usage: After cleansing and exfoliating, I apply The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. Using a cotton pad, I swipe it over my face and neck, avoiding the eye area. This toning solution helps to further exfoliate and improve skin texture, promoting a brighter, more even complexion. I typically use this in the evening to maximize its effects overnight.
  • The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
  • Usage: I incorporate The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution once a week for deeper exfoliation. I apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin, avoiding my eye area. I leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This intensive treatment helps to reduce the appearance of blemishes and improves overall skin texture. It’s important to follow up with sunscreen during the day after using this product.
  • The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
  • Usage: After exfoliating, I apply The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. I dispense a few drops onto my fingertips and gently press it into my skin. This hydrating serum draws moisture into my skin and helps to keep it plump and hydrated throughout the day.
  • La Roche-Posay Pure Retinol Face Serum
  • Usage: Next, I use the La Roche-Posay Pure Retinol Face Serum in the evening. I apply a few drops and gently massage it into my skin. This retinol serum helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin texture over time. I’m careful to use it only a few times a week, gradually increasing the frequency to minimize irritation.
  • Dermalogica Biolumin-C Serum
  • Usage: In the morning, I apply the Dermalogica Biolumin-C Serum after the hyaluronic acid. I use a few drops and massage it into my skin. This vitamin C serum brightens my complexion and helps to protect my skin against environmental stressors, providing a radiant glow.
  • Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance Face Moisturizer
  • Usage: I follow up with the Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance Face Moisturizer. I apply a generous amount to my face and neck, massaging it in to lock in moisture. This rich moisturizer helps to nourish and hydrate my skin, especially beneficial for maintaining a healthy barrier.
  • La Roche-Posay Anthelios AOX Daily Antioxidant Serum
  • Usage: Finally, I finish my morning routine with the La Roche-Posay Anthelios AOX Daily Antioxidant Serum. I apply a few drops and massage it into my skin. This antioxidant serum provides additional protection against environmental damage while also preparing my skin for sunscreen application.
